What’s on Your Vision/Dream Board?

What is a Vision Board?

A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. (Note that in our ultra digital age, you can also create vision boards to display on your computer screen and mobile devices. )

The supposedly ‘universal law of attraction‘ says you can begin to manifest your dreams into reality by yourself. The concept of the vision board (also known as a goal board, goal map, or treasure map) has been around for generations, but its gained a renewed interest and popularity after John Assaraf, a motivational speaker featured in the best-selling DVD documentary The Secret related his story of using vision boards to achieve his dreams.  What worries me about the message is that John Assaraf and others of this doctrine have taken the meaning of ‘spiritual’ to mean something other than being in perfect harmony with God.  In fact, John Assaraf coins himself as being a “spiritual Entrepreneur” that Integrates Science and Spirituality together to achieve maximum results in business and life (paraphrased from www.johnassaraf.com).  In an interview on Larry King Live Mr. Assaraf states that we have to reclaim our own ‘power’.  Remember folks, power doesn’t come from us; it comes from God.

So the problem with Assaraf is that he doesn’t make any claim to the fact that these teachings come from God’s word or that He himself is a man of God.  It seems to be a taboo thing right now to make any claim that the knowledge comes from one of the oldest books we have in the history of the world which is The Holy Bible.

Holy Bible: A General Overview
The Holy Bible is a phenomenal account of history, comprised of 66 books, written over approximately 1600 years, by at least 40 distinct authors. The Old Testament (Old Covenant) contains 39 books written from approximately 1500 to 400 BC, and the New Testament (New Covenant) contains 27 books written from approximately 40 to 90 AD. The Jewish Bible (Tenach) is the same as the Christian Old Testament, except for its book arrangement. The original Old Testament was written mainly in Hebrew, with some Aramaic, while the original New Testament was written in Greek.  Read More  In a nutshell, the new age ideals come from ancient scriptures.  So lets get back to the root of the issue so we are sure not to run down a path of mis-information and twisted thoughts created by new authors who may lead you down a path of destruction (if you’re wondering what’s the worse that can happen, you’ll need to study just as I have and ask for knowledge, wisdom and understanding.  If you do, He will reveal the truth to you).

I have had this subject on my heart for some time now.  So let’s get this straight, am I saying that Assaraf is wrong and you are not supposed to have a vision board?  Far from it!  What we are set out to do here is prove to you that these new age ideas are partially right.  But they leave God out of the picture and there is where you will run into heart ache and pain when you are not aligned with his word and when you don’t have an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ to your creator who has left us a gift, that gift is the Holy Spirit and through the Holy Spirit you have the ‘power’ to manifest your desires hopes and dreams.

Acts 2:38 English Standard Version (©2001)
And Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, it is written that we can surely create a vision of what we hope for and dream for. I was so blessed and full of grace when his words were revealed to me justifying the ideas of vision boards along with every other positive thinking doctrine I have ever read in writing through Phillipians 4:8

Philippians 4:8

King James Version (KJV)

8Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Once again, The Word of God is behind the thought process of the World view of positive affirmations etc.  We must be careful to understand that the power to be blessed with your desires only comes from grace from the Lord.  So if you subscribe to the doctrine of the world which says that YOU are the one manifesting these blessings into reality, beware and be careful because you may be opening the doors to spiritual confusion and chaos.

Your dreamboard should can be filled with ‘things’ like Aston Martins and big mansions.  But, the thing about it is you must think on the life style you will live.  Put a picture of you and your family on the dreamboard a happy picture!  Put a picture of the husband or wife and kids you want to have.

In this case, we are following Paul’s Holy Spirit led suggestion to think on what is Good, think on what is pure and lovely!  Because the fact of the matter is the car will not make you happy but the lifestyle you are thinking of will correct?  So, concentrate on the thought of the lifestyle and the peace that you will feel.  The gratification that you have worked hard and long for.

Be pleased to know that Jesus Christ says in John 14:13 American King James Version
“And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son”

So get your goals written down, pray, repent, ask and visualize peace, happiness, family, God’s favor and know that when you live in Him; His promises to us will be kept here on earth and in Heaven.  Amien
